VAMPIRES Obsessed by wealth and intoxicated with power, Nocturne's decadent ruling class are able to afford just about anything and everything they could ever want. Despite their wealth, many of the vampire lords and ladies would probably happily kill their queen if it meant they got a chance of ruling all of Nocturne. The vampires only usually kill one or two humans a month from their respective villages-whatever they need to survive, but the vampire's hunts often appear to be interfered with by the hybrids; the chosen victims dissapearing into the woods and reappearing safely in their villages the next morning. However, as much as the vampires would like to prove that the hybrids have been interfering with their hunts and thus breaking the Hunt Laws, there has never been sufficient evidence to send the vampire death squads into Woodbane Forest to wipe out the hybrids completely. But many believe that even if there was sufficient evidence to prove the hybrids' guilt, Selena would not allow her guard to kill the hybrid leaders who are rumoured to be her children by lycan pack leader Gabriel...

LYCANS Answerable only to the vampires, the lycans are what would probably be classed as Nocturne's army. A minor pack live in each village, working under the vampire nobles and returning to the capital city on the first night of every full moon to rejoin the main pack for their hunts. The lycans are extremely primal in their instincts and are the more likely of Nocturne's species to turn humans on minor hunts, rather than killing them and breaking the Hunt Laws-lycans must only hunt to feed as a main pack as any human killed on a minor pack hunt is meant to bring death on all those involved in the slaughter. Despite the relatively good relationship between the lycans and the hybrids, lycan hunts also seem to often be interfered with like those of the vampires. But unlike the members of the decadent ruling class, Gabriel doesn't seem quite as bothered by this and according to some of his generals, has struck a deal with the hybrid leaders- in exchange for any information relevant to the outlaws, the lycans are able to kill any human they choose on pack hunts. Gabriel also doesn't make a bit secret out of the fact that Saphira and Raven are his children. In fact, you could call him proud of this fact, though he refuses to tell who their mother is...

HYBRIDS Outlawed and living in Woodbane Forest, the hybrids are in fact a force to be reckoned with. They are made up of those humans lucky enough to survive being bitten by both a vampire and a lycan and the 'mongrel' children born of a forbidden union between those same species. Since the rumours began of the queen's involvement with lycan leader Gabriel, Selena quickly declared every hybrid an outlaw and forbade any to associate with them under pain of death. While the relationship between the vampires and the hybrids has always been relatively uneasy, the outlaws seem to have a much closer affinity to the lycans. From the initial creation of the hybrid pack, Raven and Saphira have only ever had one main rule- no hybrid shall ever harm a human or they face expulsion from the pack. In this way, they have always had an extremely good relationship with the humans and each can count on the other to offer help in a time of need or crisis. Because of this law, hybrid hunts usually involve captured deer and other animals, rather than human victims. But how long can this uneasy peace last before a hybrid goes rogue and kills a human?...

HUMANS The humans have always been seen as little more than meat by lycans and vampires, living under a false sense of freedom the vampires have given them. Lord Fiyero has seen much battle in this world and has seen his youngest daughter succumb to the vampires and his oldest son slaughtered on a lycan hunt. But after his life was saved by the hybrids when he found himself in the path of another lycan hunt, he and the humans have built up a brilliant relationship with the hybrids. Any village suffering under the rule of either lycan or vampire earns help and even sometimes protection from the hybrids, their forest hideout often home to families who have been evicted after thier main breadwinners were slaughtered. But as bodies begin turning up after apparently being torn to shreds by hybrids, can Fiyero and the other humans trust their apparent allies for much longer?...
THE ORACLES The Oracles are four humans who through reasons as yet unknown, have developed psychic powers and the ability to see future and past events, using these to manipulate each of the species and more or less control the battles going on in the queendom. They also apparently do not age and have long since forgotten their families. The leaders of each species tend to bribe them quite often and each of the oracles sides with a different species, usually resulting in amny an argument
